HINTS FROM HOGADON
HOW TO MAKE YOUR SKIING EXPERIENCE MORE ENJOYABLE
Casper Mountain Ski Patrol
and Hogadon Ski Area welcome you to a day of fun and fresh air. We look forward to your visit. In the past, there have been some problems with skiers who have come unprepared by not eating enough to keep them going and/or wearing clothing unsuitable for cold, wet conditions.
For the enjoyment and comfort of our guests, we offer the following suggestions:
TO PREVENT THE MID-MORNING AND/OR MID-AFTERNOON SLUMPS:
• Eat a good, hearty breakfast and a good lunch.
• Bring a morning snack. Fruit, cheese, bread, etc. are easy to carry and a great mid-morning pick me up.
• Have a snack in the afternoon too. Snacks are available at the lodge at Hogadon.
• Drink lots of liquids!! Water, juice or sports drinks will help prevent the dehydration that can happen when you are exercising.
TO PREVENT HYPOTHERMIA AND/OR FROSTBITE:
• To stay warm and dry wear fabrics next to you skin that draw the moisture away from your body. Wear clothes made of polypropylene, Lycra, "cool max", polar fleece, etc.
• Wear waterproof, breathable outer layers. That includes a coat and ski pants.
• Wear a hat that covers your ears. Your hair will recover from wearing a hat faster than your ears will recover from frostbite.
• Wear gloves or mittens. Bring an extra pair in case the first ones get wet or wear a waterproof outer shell mitten over your gloves.
• Wear sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the glare and/or wind.
• Go to the lodge every few hours to take a break, get a snack and warm up.
SOME THINGS TO AVOID:
• Don't wear blue jeans - they easily get cold, wet and stiff. They also fade on your underwear and long johns.
• Don't wear cotton - it gets wet and stays wet. That includes long underwear, socks, t-shirts and blue jeans.
ALSO, TO MAKE THE DAY MORE ENJOYABLE FOR EVERYONE:
• If you're tired, stop skiing. In this day and age of multi- passenger gondolas and high speed chair lifts, you can get a lot more time on the slopes compared to the days of the past when the guests were limited to fixed grip chairlifts.
• FOLLOW THE SKIERS RESPONSIBILITY CODE AND SKI SAFELY AND IN CONTROL.
• Please make sure that the chaperones have information regarding any medications that your child is taking or medical conditions that may cause a problem (diabetes, hypoglycemia, asthma, etc.).
• Please make sure that the chaperones have your written permission to transport your child home or to the emergency room if they are injured. The Casper Mountain ski Patrol cannot release an injured minor without parental permission.
• If you need help or you or a friend get hurt, look for the
Casper Mountain Ski Patrol
for help. The Ski Patrol wears rust and blue parkas with a blue and yellow cross on the back. The Ski Patrol hut is the blue building across from the lodge and right next to the rental shop.
