The American Red Cross has one of the most respected Learn-to-Swim programs in the nation. Mastering swimming skills takes time, practice, and patience. It is not unusual for students to repeat a level several times in order to master the skills required for completion of a comprehensive skills test that must be passed for advancement to the next level. If your child misses the testing day, they will be unable to progress to the next level.
SCHOLARSHIPS - A limited number of scholarships are available for youth of all ages, young adults 18-21 years of age, and senior citizens (ages 55 and over). These scholarships are made available by the Community Recreation Foundation, with funding assistance provided by the Tonkin Foundation, fundraisers, and public contributions. Scholarship eligibility is based on income level and number of individuals in the family. Applications are available at the Recreation Center reception counter. Each application is evaluated individually; there are no assurances of receiving a scholarship. In order for the scholarship program to continue, public contributions are needed. Interested donors may call the Recreation Superintendent at 235-8403 for more information.
