Casper Council Candidacy Open Until May 27

Casper, Wyoming (May 10, 2022) – Casper residents may begin the process of running for City Council by filing official applications for candidacy with the Casper City Clerk beginning Thursday, May 12 through Friday, May 27.

“Running for City Council is a great way to get involved and make a positive impact on our community,” City Clerk Fleur Tremel said. All Municipal elections are conducted through the Natrona County Clerk Elections Office. As City Clerk, Tremel is the Municipal Elections Officer responsible for assisting candidates with filing applications. Any Casper electorate over the age of 18 who has lived in Casper for at least one year is eligible to run for City Council.

Four Casper City Council seats are open this election: Ward I – one seat; Ward II – one seat; Ward III – two seats. The recently updated Council Ward map is available here. Since Wards were redistricted in 2022, the typical requirement of living within the representative Ward for at least one year does not apply this election. Contact the City Clerk at (307) 235-8272 with questions on Wards and eligibility.

All Municipal offices, including City Council, are non-partisan. Learn more about available candidate resources through Natrona County here. Filing forms are available through the Secretary of State’s office here.

To become a candidate, file an “Application for Nomination by Primary” form with a non-refundable $25 filing fee at the City of Casper Finance Customer Service area or the Information Desk inside City Hall at 200 N. David St. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Candidates must file their applications and pay the $25 fee no later than Friday, May 27 at 5 p.m.

The official list of candidates reflecting the most recent applications filed will be updated on the City of Casper’s website daily, beginning May 12 through the end of the filing period May 27. Because applications may be turned in until 5 p.m. Friday, May 27, the complete list of candidates will be available Tuesday, May 31, following the Memorial Day holiday.
